Can PA Employees Claim Workers' Compensation for COVID-19?

Pennsylvania has classified COVID-19 as an occupational illness, especially for those whose work puts them in contact with the public. First responders, healthcare workers, and retail employees may be eligible for benefits under the occupational illness law.

Employees may also be able to file a claim if they contracted COVID-19 from a coworker who tested positive or if they were traveling. Fortunately, you only have to show that you likely caught COVID-19 during your employment.

What to Do if You Caught COVID-19 at Work

Employees who contract COVID-19 should report their condition to their employer as soon as possible. Pennsylvania requires employers to decide workers’ compensation benefits within 21 days of receiving the petition.
